Ride the DBBB

“The Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway (DBBB) is a moderately difficult, high clearance route for licensed, street legal 4WD vehicles. It utilizes historic county roads around the Red River Gorge and Daniel Boone National Forest. It contains terrain surfaces varying between gravel, trail, and asphalt.” Folks will gather each morning to group up for crowd-sourced trail rides. Scenic self-guided tours

The Red River Gorge scenic byway is located in the Red River Gorge on the Cumberland District of the Daniel Boone National Forest. Attractions on the byway include the Gladie Visitor Center, Nada Tunnel, and views of stone arches or unique rock formations. Portions of the byway also parallel the Red River, a designated wild and scenic river.

About the Event

Thanks @OverlandPioneers for capturing the highlights and special moments from the inaugural Overland the Red event in the Red River Gorge, KY. This overland and off-road basecamp was a huge success thanks to our attendees, sponsors and the amazing staff at Callie’s Lake and Campground. We gave away over $10k in prizes, including a TC Teardrops Oasis Overland camper trailer in a raffle that raised over $3,300 for the Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway.

What kind of event is this?

This is an overland and off-road basecamp gathering. Your ticket gets you camping for the weekend and entry to our giveaways and the raffle to benefit the DBBB. There will be a select group of vendors at camp showing their vehicle-assisted adventure gear and products and there are tons of activities in the Red River Gorge area that the whole family can enjoy.  We will gather each evening to give away some prizes, get to know each other and tell our stories

What trails are in the area at Overland the Red?

There are miles of scenic paved and gravel roads including the Red River Gorge Scenic Byway, the Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway (DBBB,) Kentucky Adventure Trail (KAT,) and several offroad parks in the area.

Do I need a permit?

No, the RRGSB, DBBB & KAT are all public roads (if you’re doing the DBBB, you should download the official map from Cartotracks to use on Avenza. See the DBBB website for info.)

Will there be guided trail rides?

We are not trail guides but there will be locals and club members willing to take people out- just come to the morning meetup to find a group you are comfortable with. If you want a guided ride of Hollerwood Offroad Park, contact Sam Justice for options.

What other activities are in the area?

There are tons of activities! Climbing, group hiking, ziplining, underground kayaking, fall color chair lift tours, horseback riding, atv tours and more! Watch our newsletter and our facebook event for discounts on activities.

What kind of facility is Callie's Campground?

Rustic camping! There are flush toilets and showers near the camp store/cafe. There is a children’s play area and camp is just minutes from the town of  Stanton and the Red River Gorge.

What does my ticket get me?

Your Overland the Red ticket gets you camping at Callie’s for the weekend (th-sun,) OTR tshirt, sticker and swag bag. You’ll also have access to Vendor Row, an adventure passport to fill in and return for a chance to win, entry in our evening vendor giveaways and one free DBBB benefit raffle ticket (purchase additional tickets at the DBBB booth.) All other basecamp activities are also included. Not included- Hollerwood tours (please book through guide Sam Justice) and activities at surrounding attractions. Kids under 18 are free. Additional passenger ticket sold separately.
